Athanase Muntu, MPA

Athanase Muntu is a policy analyst, bearer of public and private sector values. He has a demonstrated history of working in cross-cultural settings in Africa and The United States. Currently, he is an international development practitioner overseeing monitoring and evaluation (M&E) aspects of projects in line with the organization and its strategic partners. Athanase has an extensive community knowledge deeply rooted in his personality of inspiring role model and leadership among the foreign-born populations of Dayton, Ohio. Under the auspices of Harambee Coffee Roasters Cooperative (HCRC) in Dayton, he used his analytical skills to develop Harambee Coffee Roasters Newsletter. As an Editor, Athanase crafted community-engaging articles that stimulated self-sufficiency and the unity of purpose among African immigrants in Dayton, Ohio. He participates in community events that highlight immigrants’ needs and interests. Inspired by nonprofit administration and volunteer management skills, he has developed strategies of using the cadre of volunteers to attract more dedicated volunteers in local agencies. Mr. Muntu worked under contract of Miami Valley Interpreters Inc. to facilitate the translation of refugees’ overseas health records and identification documents from Kinyarwanda, Kirundi, and French into English allowing proper health screening by the Department of Public Health of Dayton and Montgomery County. The facilitation led to necessary referrals to primary care providers for routine and chronic diseases management. Athanase has served as a cultural facilitator as he provided the specialist knowledge of the cultural identity of refugees to build trust between doctors and patients. He has been translating for Ohio Graduation Tests (OGT) from English to languages of tests takers (Kinyarwanda, Kirundi, Swahili, and French) leading to an increased number of immigrants graduating with a high school diploma. Bachelor of Arts in International Studies with a concentration on International Diplomacy and Peace Studies, Mr. Muntu graduated with a Master’s in Public Administration (MPA) from Wright State University, Ohio with a focus on International Development and Policy Analysis.
